Volunteer Spotlight – 2022

Gail and Barry Clayman have volunteered at Yarmouth Food Pantry since the nonprofit first opened its doors in 2010.

“Initially, we did not realize the extent of the need within the local communities,” said the couple. “Some families are uncomfortable visiting the pantry for the first time,” they said, pointing out that pantry volunteers never judge and always endeavor to make the families feel welcome.

In 2016, the Yarmouth Food Pantry submitted Barry Clayman as a candidate for the Myra Kraft Community MVP – New England Patriots Charitable Foundation volunteerism award. He was recognized as that year’s lead volunteer and the Yarmouth Food Pantry received a $25,000 financial award.

“It gives us personal satisfaction knowing that we and the pantry reach so many families with food insecurity. Twelve years later, we are still part of the pantry’s volunteer group,” said the Claymans, who strongly believe that the families served by the pantry have Executive Director Sue Martin and the Rotary Club of Yarmouth to thank for the establishment and longstanding stewardship of the pantry.

“We are fortunate to live in a free country and that it is more important to give than to receive,” the Claymans said. “It is a blessing to be able to assist where and whenever needed.”

The Yarmouth Food Pantry is always looking for volunteers. If you would like to give back to your community, please call Sue Martin at 508-394-0880.
